Dipping into the Literary Classics

Monday, October 27th, 2008

For quite some time — I’m not sure quite how long — I’ve been meaning to read the so-called “Classics.”

Some of them really appeal to me, others i’ve read good things about, and some don’t appeal to me at all.  So i decided to start the ball rolling, and just this afternoon (Minutes before i started writing this post) I placed my order on Amazon.co.uk.

The books I’ve started with are as follows: Read More »

2012 Doomsday

Film - Disaster - Sci-fi - Drama

The idea of this film really appealed to me. End of the world, disaster, with a fight for survival, etc. It’s been done before, but i’m a sucker for the genre. Then i realised the film is actually a Christian film. I wasn’t overly put off, as it still held promise, i don’t mind a bit of Christianity anyway. Then i watched it. Oh boy. Awful in every way possible, well the first 50 minutes were, which is as long as i lasted, and the last 25 of those were spent doing other things with the film still playing in the background. Awful acting, awful twee music and “heartfelt” conversations about God and belief, with not a sniff of realism or anything that even made sense. The science was way off, the understanding of “people” was even further off, and after 50 minutes my DVD player was off too. To a big sigh of relief.

Beyond Loch Ness - Film review

Beyond Loch Ness

Film - Horror - Sci-fi - Action

Same old, same old. There’s so many of these films now and very few of them are anywhere near decent. Prehistoric beast turns up in a lake, starts killing things and people. Again. This isn’t one of the decent ones. Dull, boring, bland, and another dull, just to be sure you understand where i’m coming from. AVOID.

Hancock - Film Review

Hancock

Film - Sci-fi - Action - Comedy

Let me start out by saying i like Will Smith, and generally i tend to like the types of films he stars in.

The concept is a superhero, who likes to drink and doesn’t quite get things right, in his life-saving, world-protecting ways.  In steps a PR rep to work on his persona and public favour.

I got what i expected and a little bit more. Great action, as is to be expected these days with the leaps and bounds in CGI. The film is quite funny, with lots of little quips and one liners, and the plot itself is quite a funny idea. I’m only really marking down the film because so much of it IS to be expected, there’s nothing new, really, and i doubt it’ll win any awards. If you’re bored, or fancy an easy to watch film that’ll please, this is the one for you.
