Life Experience (How The Hell Did That Happen?)

Thursday, October 23rd, 2008

As i’ve started to write again, and think about things that are going on around me, as well as looking for subjects and personal experiences to write about, i’ve realised something that was quite unexpected.

The one big motto of most writers seems to be, universally, “Write about the things you know.”  Obviously the more interesting, unique and/or experience filled lives that people lead, the more they have to write about.

  • The assumption

I never really see myself as grown up, or experienced or having led a fulfilling life.  Part of the reason for that is because of my ex, who certainly liked to portray an image of me that was immature, wasn’t experienced enough in life to understand some of how it worked (A nice little psychological trick to justify wrongs and make it sound like the normal way of life).  Read More »

Who Am I? - The beginning

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008

As the title asks, Who Am I?

I’m tempted to use the easy answer on this one.  I could even satisfy myself with it, because as i think it, it’s the only answer that makes sense to me.  I don’t know.  I just don’t know who i am.

That wouldn’t make for much of a post though, and deep down, i know it’s not the real answer either.  I know that the real me still exists, somewhere, hidden among the scaffolding i had to build up to keep things from falling apart.  Hidden among the excuses i used to make everything OK.  Hidden among the Me i created to survive and exist in the harsh, cruel world i perceived around me.  Read More »

Do I Believe? - UFOs, Aliens and Chariots of the Gods

Monday, August 25th, 2008

Another of my childhood interests which even stuck with me through my Christian years, always giving me cause for curiosity and wonder. I have somewhat lost my interest and curiosity over recent years, guess i had to get rid of a few things to make room for everything else that was going on inside of me.

  • The Concepts

There’s quite a few ideas and theories behind the whole phenomenon of UFOs and Aliens, some more plausible than others. Read More »

Letting life pass you by

Tuesday, August 19th, 2008

As I was walking this morning (not long ago), i realised that although i had my mp3 player in my pocket, and my earphones firmly planted, i wasn’t really listening to the music most of the time.

There are two things i like to do while walking, one is listening to music, the other is thinking. Be it coming up with ideas, for stories, or working through something i’m trying to sort out in my life, or even about a list of games to bet on, in football.

But, i realised that i can’t really do both, certainly not well. And often i’d find myself drifting into thought, and missing the rest of a song, even when it’s a song i really, really like. Read More »

Another apologist, another reason to be thick

Friday, August 8th, 2008

A university lecturer fed up with correcting students’ spelling howlers wants common mistakes to be accepted into the English language.

This is just what we need really, in the UK, yet more excuses for kids who either don’t want to learn or are incapable. The British education system is getting more and more like the Special Olympics every day, with more and more excuses written into the rule book, less and less reward for the kids who actually do try and are gifted.

Bebo wants to contact aliens!

Thursday, August 7th, 2008

bebo

People interested in sending a message into space are being given the chance by social networking site Bebo. People can send in their messages, with the 500 best being decided by a web vote which runs until September 30.

Am i the only person to read this story and think, ‘dear god no! Don’t put out such a bad representation of the human race! Not bebo!!!!’.

At the best of times, i don’t have such a high opinion of our feeble little race and although there aren’t really any comparisons to make, us not having actually encountered alien life forms yet, i’m pretty sure that we wouldn’t rate up there as ‘people we must lunch with’, on any self-respecting aliens event calender.

Dead man wakes in morgue

Wednesday, August 6th, 2008

Doctors who were about to do a post-mortem on a man they thought had died in a stampede that killed 150 people were astonished when he woke up and started talking.

This is the very reason i plan to be cremated when i finally leave this mortal coil. Not because i fear waking up in the morgue, afterall it’s just a room full of dead bodies with cold, blank stares, but because of the fear of waking up sometime after this!
There are two possible time frames for ‘waking up’, in this scenario, which quite frankly fill my heart with dread!

Swearing

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

Swearing - Does it make you look big and clever, or is that just smoking?

Growing up i used to swear like the proverbial “trooper”, i was even allowed to swear at home, in front of my parents, well i say “parents”, actually if my Father had caught me swearing (which wouldn’t have been easy, considering he was born deaf and dumb), he probably would have put me in hospital, but my Mother, although fearsome on other levels, didn’t seem to mind too much about swearing; using it herself or hearing it from myself and my brothers.

I wasn’t allowed to swear in public though, and i “knew” to do so would earn me a smack, even though my Mother very rarely hit me (the fact that i was a delight to raise being an important factor!). I never swore in front of extended family, nor in front of teachers, church (add angel to “delight to raise”) members, et al.
