Tears of the clown

Wednesday, November 12th, 2008

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been going through a bit of a — Actually i’m not sure what it is.  I’ve not been depressed, or even sad, just spending too much time thinking about things and prone to see the negative.

So to combat this, I’ve been watching a lot of comedy.  Chicken soup for the soul.

My comedic tastes are quite brutal.  I do like a lot of innocent comedians and their acts: like Ken Dodd, Ronnie Corbett, etc, but i’m really at home with the most disgusting and brutal comedians.  Read More »

My Mummy (2008)

Film - Comedy

You know the idea, ancient Mummy somehow turns up in the hands of people who aren’t responsible to look after it, it comes back to life and… well you know the idea. I made it through 25 minutes, i say made it through, struggled through would better describe the situation. The acting in this film is non-existent, and it’s still mildly better than the writing, and any of the other talents that go into making a film. The only thing this film had going for it, was the fact i was watching it on DVD, and could just click “stop” on the remote control. If i’d paid for this title, i’d be demanding my money back, plus compensation for the 25 minutes of my life lost forever in the process.

Hancock

Film - Sci-fi - Action - Comedy

Let me start out by saying i like Will Smith, and generally i tend to like the types of films he stars in.

The concept is a superhero, who likes to drink and doesn’t quite get things right, in his life-saving, world-protecting ways.  In steps a PR rep to work on his persona and public favour.

I got what i expected and a little bit more. Great action, as is to be expected these days with the leaps and bounds in CGI. The film is quite funny, with lots of little quips and one liners, and the plot itself is quite a funny idea. I’m only really marking down the film because so much of it IS to be expected, there’s nothing new, really, and i doubt it’ll win any awards. If you’re bored, or fancy an easy to watch film that’ll please, this is the one for you.
