Play along with Paulie (Hear me play keyboards!)

Monday, December 1st, 2008

I’ve always loved music, as far back as I can remember.  My Mum was always a big music fan, and I guess it rubbed off.

When i was younger, in primary school, I can remember not being able to afford a Recorder, and because of this, I remember my Mother lying to the teacher and saying I was tone deaf.  I guess that’s better than admitting you can’t afford something.  Read More »

Music - It’s like music to my ears, literally.

Thursday, November 27th, 2008

It would appear, completely randomly, that I’ve been getting back in touch with my love of music lately.

The reason is mainly to do with my dipping a toe in the mirky waters of newfound sounds.  And actually liking what I found, against all odds.

First - And probably most shocking of all - I decided to give the new Metallica album a spin.  Death Magnetic.  Read More »

Tears of the clown

Wednesday, November 12th, 2008

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been going through a bit of a — Actually i’m not sure what it is.  I’ve not been depressed, or even sad, just spending too much time thinking about things and prone to see the negative.

So to combat this, I’ve been watching a lot of comedy.  Chicken soup for the soul.

My comedic tastes are quite brutal.  I do like a lot of innocent comedians and their acts: like Ken Dodd, Ronnie Corbett, etc, but i’m really at home with the most disgusting and brutal comedians.  Read More »

Dipping into the Literary Classics

Monday, October 27th, 2008

For quite some time — I’m not sure quite how long — I’ve been meaning to read the so-called “Classics.”

Some of them really appeal to me, others i’ve read good things about, and some don’t appeal to me at all.  So i decided to start the ball rolling, and just this afternoon (Minutes before i started writing this post) I placed my order on Amazon.co.uk.

The books I’ve started with are as follows: Read More »

Kimbo Slice Hype Train Derails

Sunday, October 5th, 2008

Source: Kimbo defeated by last minute stand-in for Ken Shamrock.

A 28-year-old from Fort Myers, Fla., Petruzelli accepted the matchup after Slice’s scheduled opponent, Ken Shamrock, was cut over his left eye during a light workout and medically disqualified some time before the fight. The notice was outrageously short for Petruzelli, and the win over Slice that resulted was outrageously huge.

With vigorous claims of a “fix” being in, for Shamrock to throw the fight and take a dive, to push Kimbo into legitimacy, being banded around MMA circles for the last week or so, then the timely pull-out of Shamrock only an hour before the fight was due to take place, due to a cut he managed to pick up in a “light work out”, many fans were getting ready to cry foul, myself included.  Read More »

Obscene Publications Act - Censorship

Friday, October 3rd, 2008

Source: Blogger taken to court over fantasy story about Girls Aloud.

A civil servant is being prosecuted for the alleged publication of a blog with details of the kidnap, torture, mutilation and murder of pop band Girls Aloud.

Darryn Walker is accused of writing the obscene article and posting it on a fantasy porn website.

The blog, called ‘Girls (Scream) Aloud’ is said to be 12 pages long and described the killing of the band members.

I should point out, this story was written for and published on, a website for erotic fiction, and there doesn’t seem to be any accusation that the problem lies in taking the story seriously, or averting a real crime.  In fact, from what i’ve read about the story, elsewhere, whether the story is about real people, celebrity or otherwise, isn’t even a factor in such a case.  Read More »

It’s time to RUMBLEEEEEEEEEEEEE.  UFC weekend is upon us once more!

Highlights:

UFC 88 sees the return of Tim Boetsch, who promises to offer anyone a decent fight, with some nice crisp and powerful striking, as well as killer throws.

We also get to see Matt Hamill take on Rich Franklin, pitting fierce, retard-strength based wrestling and inexperience against the very experienced and crisp, accurate and brutal striking of the ex Middleweight champion Franklin.  Whatever happens in this fight, it should be exciting! Read More »

Randy Couture returns to the UFC

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008

Source: Sherdog.com - Couture Exclusive

Faced with the potential of spending the remaining years of his competitive career fighting in a courtroom instead of a cage, Randy Couture (Pictures) was left with one decision.

The 45-year-old heavyweight champion finalized an agreement Tuesday to return to the UFC and defend his title.

The rumours were right.  Not only has Randy returned to the UFC, where his MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) career began all those years ago, but he’ll find himself pitted against the genetic freak that is Brock Lesnar.  Read More »

Flash Fiction - First story submitted

Tuesday, August 26th, 2008

I read only a few days ago on a friend’s blog about something called Flash Fiction.  Writing stories which are under 1,000 words long.

The idea appealed to me, because i’m lazy, and also because when i do write, i’m such a harsh critic of my own work, that if it takes more than one sitting, it’s almost guaranteed i’ll delete it at the second sitting.

I was a little bored this morning and decided to look around for short stories websites, something to give me a little boost in my writing.  And one of the sites i landed upon was for Flash Fiction, which offers £50 to the author of any story published on their website/newsletter. Read More »
